Born on the Edge of Africa
Durban's bold new international coastal running experience — built on a proud legacy, reimagined for the world.
Our Story
Our Story
The Indian Ocean Marathon signals a bold new chapter for road running in Durban. Created by taking over the established Orcas Ultra Marathon and transforming it into a fresh, exciting, and internationally positioned running event, the Indian Ocean Marathon is designed to put Durban firmly on the global road running map.
With the warm waters of the Indian Ocean on one side and the vibrant energy of South Africa's most dynamic city on the other, the setting has always been extraordinary. The Indian Ocean Marathon is the race it deserves.
One of the exciting opportunities behind the Indian Ocean Marathon is its potential to become a compelling alternative for runners who want to participate in the hard-to-enter events in other provinces. The Indian Ocean Marathon offers an exciting, world-class alternative — right here on the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
